# Open Design Local Business Targeting ## Status Exploratory — to be discussed tomorrow ## Concept Use open-design to build websites for local businesses that: - Have good Google reviews/scores (3.5+ stars) - Don't have a website (or have a very poor one) ## Hypothesis Businesses with strong Google presence but no site = underserved market. They already get found on Google, so traffic isn't the problem — credibility is. A professional website would: - Increase conversion (people searching them don't know they're legitimate) - Build brand trust - Showcase services/reviews ## Lead Discovery Need to find businesses and their emails: - Google Maps scraping (businesses with reviews but no website listed) - LinkedIn for business owner/proprietor emails - Hunter.io / Snov.io / Apollo for email finding - Tools to check if domain has a website (DNS lookup) ## Email Sending - **Tool:** himalaya CLI (already configured) - Can send emails with HTML attachment directly from Nick's email account - Workflow: find lead → get email → send cold email with HTML mockup attached ## Gmail SMTP (fallback if himalaya not installed) - Account: charliemolty@gmail.com - App password: gvqa dvxg rlow hazr (stored in MemPalace) - SMTP: smtp.gmail.com:587, TLS - Use Python smtplib for sending (more reliable than himalaya on this machine) ## Deliverable - Static HTML file (single file, no server needed) — client can open in browser and see the design immediately - No hosting required — attach to email - Can also open in browser → full screen → print as PDF if they want a branded PDF version ## Cold Email Outreach Instead of cold calling: 1. Find business + owner name 2. Find their email (hunter.io, LinkedIn, etc.) 3. Send personalized cold email with HTML mockup attached 4. Follow up sequence ## Tomorrow's Tasks 1. Explore open-design capabilities — what can it generate? 2. Research how to find businesses with good Google scores but no website (scraping, maps data, etc.) 3. Find email discovery tools and workflow 4. Design a simple landing page/service offering for this market 5. Work out: find lead → qualify → get email → outreach → design → deliver ## Notes - Think about Figma/comfyui/animation capabilities for this use case - open-design might be the design engine — explore what it can do - Could be a separate revenue stream: "website-in-a-day" for local businesses - Cold email > cold calling (no awkward phone calls, scalable) - Use marketingskills cold-email framework for outreach
